Department of biotechnology-Biotechnology Eligibility Test (DBT-BET-JRF) an exam exclusively for biotechnology students in India. If you are a post graduate in Biotechnology, this is your exam and don’t miss it. The exam is conducted by Department of Biotechnology exclusively for Biotechnology students across India. The number of post graduates in biotechnology is on the rise and after your PG the default option is CSIR-UGC-JRF-NET exam where you have to compete with students from all streams of life science. In that exam also you may not be familiar with questions from basic sciences like botany or zoology where you have to look into lot of areas in biology in order to get through. Actually, you don’t have an advantage in having a PG in biotechnology that often demands good expenditure. With this background, this is the only exam where you get questions only from your subject.

Why you should write this exam?
If you qualify this exam, you will be getting a fellowship amount as similar as CSIR/UGC-JRF/SRF 16000/- 18,000/-for the first two years. You have to submit the progress report every second year. At the end of second year, you have to conduct a JRF assessment. Remember, for lectureship eligibility still you have to qualify NET.
275 JRFs are selected through Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET), being conducted this year by NCCS, Pune. Fellowships are provided for an initial period of 3 years which could be extended up to five years. Contingency grant of Rs.30, 000/- per fellow per annum is also provided. Top ranking 100 students in merit are given option to join any institute of their choice in the country for pursuing Ph.D. Option is given to next 175 candidates in merit list to join DBT supported PG teaching universities and DBT institutes.
Mode of Selection:The candidates will be selected based on a single session online admission test, “Biotechnology Eligibility Test” (BET) to be conducted on 20st April, 2014 at 10 AM in the following twelve cities: New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Patna, Thiruvananthapuram& Ahmedabad.
Mode of Application: Candidates should register and apply online in the prescribed application form obtainable at the URL http://nccs.sifyitest.com/BET2014/ starting on 20th February 2014. All the details about the application process and the examination are available on the web site.
The last date for submission of online application form is 21st March, 2014. Stepwise procedure for filling the online application form, payment of application fees and uploading of required documents/certificates is given in the above said URL. The application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. General/OBC candidates have to pay an application fee of Rs. 500/- and SC/ST/PH categories are exempted from payment of application form.
